Statewide layer of the smallest voter tabulation areas for the Vermont House of Representatives. Compiled by VCGI using\\u00a0Vermont town boundaries\\u00a0and\\u00a0Vermont 2022 House Districts. Current as of February 2023.
In some cases, the geographic extent of a voting tabulation area is a municipality; in other cases it is a section of a municipality (see below for special cases involving unincorporated towns). Many polygons in this layer represent part of a state House district (to which votes are tabulated to determine the winner of an election; many districts are multi-town). Although House district boundaries purportedly follow town boundaries, according to the statute where they are verbally described, the data layer was likely created based on Census TIGER file lines and did not always align exactly with VCGI's town boundary layer. As such, the town boundary layer was used to create the voter tabulation areas, and any additional splits were derived using the 2022 House district layer.

- VOTE_TOWN / VOTE TOWN: Municipality where votes are tabulated
- CNTY / COUNTY: County
- VOTE_TOWN_GEOID / VOTE TOWN GEOID: Unique identifier for each municipality based on the most current edition of the\\u00a0Vermont Geographic Area Names and Codes Standard. Useful for joining with other data by town
- HOUSE_DISTRICT / HOUSE DISTRICT: Legislature-designated abbreviation of 2022 House District
- HOUSE_NAME / HOUSE NAME: Legislature-designated full name of 2022 House District
- SEN_DISTRICT / SENATE DISTRICT: Legislature-designated abbreviation of 2022 Senate District
- SEN_NAME / SENATE NAME: Legislature-designated full name of 2022 Senate District
- RESIDENT_TOWN / RESIDENT TOWN: Municipality where voters reside (see Unincorporated town explanation below)
- HOUSE_VOTETAB_ID / HOUSE VOTE TAB ID: Unique code for each House voting tabulation area. The code was created by concatenating "VT_2022_HOUSE_" with a sequential three-digit number assigned to each tabulation area. Useful for joining tabular voting data reported by the VT Secretary of State Elections Division (https://electionarchive.vermont.gov/)
Unincorporated towns were merged with the municipality in which their residents vote, as follows: Warren's Gore, Warner's Grant, Averill, Avery's Gore, Ferdinand, and Lewis merged with Canaan; Buels Gore merged with Huntington; Glastenbury* merged with Shaftsbury; Somerset* merged with Stratton.
*Glastenbury residents may register to vote in Shaftsbury or Sunderland, while Somerset residents may register to vote in Stratton, Dover, Jamaica, or Wardsboro. Based on the 2022 House and Senate Districts, and to maintain simplicity and consistency between the House and Senate Voter Tabulation layers, VCGI has chosen to merge Glastenbury with Shaftsbury and Somerset with Stratton.
