The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual- chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The Floodplain Mapping/Redelineation flood risk boundaries are derived from the engineering information Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
\r\n <purpose>The objective of the Floodplain Mapping/Redelineation data submission is to archive the flood boundary and redelineation data for a study in a database such that it can be revised and used with minimum effort in future flood insurance studies or map revisions. Likewise flood elevations at the confluence of streams studied independently are checked to ensure agreement at the confluence. The FIRM and the FIS are developed together and care is taken to ensure that the elevations and other features shown on the flood profiles in the FIS agree with the information shown on the FIRM. However, the elevations as shown on the FIRM are rounded whole-foot elevations. They must be shown so that a profile recreated from the elevations on the FIRM will match the FIS profiles within one half of one foot.</logic>\r\n <complete>Data contained in the Floodplain Mapping and Redelineation files reflect the content of the source materials. Features may have been eliminated or generalized on the source graphic, due to scale and legibility constraints. With new mapping, FEMA plans to maintain full detail in the spatial data it produces. However, older information is often transferred from existing maps where some generalization has taken place. Flood risk data are developed for communities participating in the NFIP for use in insurance rating and for floodplain management. Flood hazard areas are determined using statistical analyses of records of river flow, storm tides, and rainfall; information obtained through consultation with the communities; floodplain topographic surveys; and hydrological and hydraulic analysis. Both detailed and approximate analyses are employed. Generally, detailed analyses are used to generate flood risk data only for developed or developing areas of communities. For areas where little or no development is expected to occur, FEMA uses approximate analyses to generate flood risk data. Typically, only drainage areas that are greater than one square mile are studied.</complete>\r\n <lineage>\r\n <srcinfo>\r\n <srccite>\r\n <citeinfo>\r\n <origin>Federal Emergency Management Agency</origin>\r\n <pubdate>19781001</pubdate>\r\n <title>Flood Insurance Study Report, City of Monticello, Iowa (Jones County)</title>\r\n </citeinfo>\r\n </srccite>\r\n <typesrc>paper</typesrc>\r\n <srctime>\r\n <timeinfo>\r\n <sngdate>\r\n <caldate>19781001</caldate>\r\n </sngdate>\r\n </timeinfo>\r\n <srccurr>FIS and FIRM Effective Date</srccurr>\r\n </srctime>\r\n <srccitea>FIS1</srccitea>\r\n <srccontr>Spatial and attribute information, floodplain widths, BFEs, floodplain location.</srccontr>\r\n </srcinfo>\r\n <srcinfo>\r\n <srccite>\r\n <citeinfo>\r\n <origin>United States Geological Survey</origin>\r\n <pubdate>Unknown</pubdate>\r\n <title>Public Land Survey System and Quad Index</title>\r\n <geoform>Vector Digital Data</geoform>\r\n <pubinfo>\r\n <pubplace>http://data.geocomm.com/catalog/</pubplace>\r\n <publish>GeoCommunity</publish>\r\n </pubinfo>\r\n </citeinfo>\r\n </srccite>\r\n <srcscale>24000</srcscale>\r\n <typesrc>Digital Download</typesrc>\r\n <srctime>\r\n <timeinfo>\r\n <sngdate>\r\n <caldate>20070125</caldate>\r\n </sngdate>\r\n </timeinfo>\r\n <srccurr>Publication Date</srccurr>\r\n </srctime>\r\n <srccitea>BASE1</srccitea>\r\n <srccontr>Public Land Survey System Data and quad index</srccontr>\r\n </srcinfo>\r\n <srcinfo>\r\n <srccite>\r\n <citeinfo>\r\n <origin>Jones County Auditor's Office, GIS Department</origin>\r\n <pubdate>20070629</pubdate>\r\n <title>Local Basemap Data Layers</title>\r\n <geoform>Vector Digital Data</geoform>\r\n <pubinfo>\r\n <pubplace>Anamosa, Iowa</pubplace>\r\n <publish>Jones County Auditor's Office</publish>\r\n </pubinfo>\r\n </citeinfo>\r\n </srccite>\r\n <srcscale>24000</srcscale>\r\n <typesrc>Digital Download</typesrc>\r\n <srctime>\r\n <timeinfo>\r\n <sngdate>\r\n <caldate>20070629</caldate>\r\n </sngdate>\r\n </timeinfo>\r\n <srccurr>Publication Date</srccurr>\r\n </srctime>\r\n <srccitea>BASE2</srccitea>\r\n <srccontr>Water lines, water polygons, Road Centerlines and Political Boundaries for Jones County, Iowa</srccontr>\r\n </srcinfo>\r\n <srcinfo>\r\n <srccite>\r\n <citeinfo>\r\n <origin>NOAA, National Geodetic Survey</origin>\r\n <pubdate>20040101</pubdate>\r\n <title>Horizontal and Vertical Geodetic Control Data for the United States</title>\r\n <geoform>Vector Digital Data</geoform>\r\n <pubinfo>\r\n <pubplace>NOAA Campus, Silver Spring, MD</pubplace>\r\n <publish>NOAA, National Geodetic Survey</publish>\r\n </pubinfo>\r\n </citeinfo>\r\n </srccite>\r\n <srcscale>24000</srcscale>\r\n <typesrc>Digital Download</typesrc>\r\n <srctime>\r\n <timeinfo>\r\n <sngdate>\r\n <caldate>20061106</caldate>\r\n </sngdate>\r\n </timeinfo>\r\n <srccurr>Publication Date</srccurr>\r\n </srctime>\r\n <srccitea>BASE3</srccitea>\r\n <srccontr>Benchmarks for Jones County, Iowa</srccontr>\r\n </srcinfo>\r\n <srcinfo>\r\n <srccite>\r\n <citeinfo>\r\n <origin>Jones County Auditor's Office, GIS Department</origin>\r\n <pubdate>2005</pubdate>\r\n <title>Orthoimagery for Jones County, Iowa</title>\r\n <geoform>Raster Digital Data</geoform>\r\n <pubinfo>\r\n <pubplace>Anamosa, Iowa</pubplace>\r\n <publish>Jones County Auditor's Office</publish>\r\n </pubinfo>\r\n </citeinfo>\r\n </srccite>\r\n <srcscale>1200</srcscale>\r\n <typesrc>Digital Download</typesrc>\r\n <srctime>\r\n <timeinfo>\r\n <sngdate>\r\n <caldate>2005</caldate>\r\n </sngdate>\r\n </timeinfo>\r\n <srccurr>Publication Date</srccurr>\r\n </srctime>\r\n <srccitea>BASE4</srccitea>\r\n <srccontr>Digital Orthoimagery for Jones County, Iowa.
