The Runways database contains runways in the United States and US territories containing information on the physical characteristics of the runways. This data layer contains runways that have corresponding and reported runways ends, and the linear feature of the runway could be created based off these points. The runways in the dataset are associated with the airports dataset on NTAD, showing runways for all official and operational aerodromes. This geospatial data is derived from the FAA's National Airspace System Resource Aeronautical Data. Every 28 days (on AIRAC (Aeronautical Information Regulation And Control) Cycles), these data are released in txt and csv format. The Runways dataset is generated using the data from the NASR 28 Day Subscription. A total of three of the CSVs are used: APT_RWY.csv, APT_RWY_END.csv, and APT_BASE.csv. Using a python script, the APT_RWY_END.csv is filtered down to records that meet the criteria to create a runway polygon (such as valid Lat/Long pairs). The table is then joined to APT_RWY.csv on the fields \u201cSITE_NO\u201d and \u201cRWY_ID\u201d to populate the data with general runway information (length of runway, width of runway, etc.).  The APT_BASE.csv is subsequently joined to populate the data with airport information (airport name, ownership type code, and facility use code).
