Two of the men, Mars and Jesse Lucas,\\u00a0had recently been emancipated\\u00a0by Albert and Townsend Heaton of Loudoun County.\\u00a0Over the next decade, the two sets of brothers corresponded about family back home in Loudoun and the challenges of\\u00a0life\\u00a0in\\u00a0Liberia. Seven of those letters are in the\\u00a0<a href='http://loudounmuseum.org' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'>Loudoun Museum</a> in Leesburg, Virginia.\\u00a0</span></p><p><span style='font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.38462;'>This Story Map includes excerpts (and links to copies of) the letters,\\u00a0the locations\\u00a0mentioned within them, and a little about the events that led the Lucas family and other\\u00a0emancipated people to move across the Atlantic for\\u00a0a new life.
